Kirra Dyer
Growth CoachCoaching you to achieve your full potential
Hi, I’m Kirra! In life there are no rewards or punishments, there are only consequences. And you can decide what your consequences are.
My Story
I was born and bred in Australia, on the surf coast near the infamous Bells Beach. When I was a young child I dreamt of being a pro surfer, until I discovered skiing at age 10. Through skiing I discovered the Rocky Mountains, where I would go in the Australian summers to train and compete on snow.
In 1999 earned a Ba. Education (K-12) with majors in Outdoor Education, Drama, and Health Education, and then promptly moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, to be a ski bum! I spent the majority of my 20s doing winters in Steamboat and Vail as a Freestyle Ski Coach, and working mostly in outdoor adventure tourism in the summer times, either with local camps, country-wide tour guiding, or leading hikes in Alaska. I was fortunate to travel to all 50 US states during this time.
Eventually I yearned to return home to Australia. I spent my 30s working in Outdoor Education and classroom teaching. During this time I raced XC mountain bikes and founded a Junior Development program at my local mountain bike club that would go on to be one of the biggest and best in the country. I was also fortunate to spend 4 incredible years living in an Aboriginal community in Arnhem Land, teaching indigenous students and learning about Yolngu culture. I embarked on numerous solo travel trips (many with my dog… so it that really solo?) including bikepacking, multi-day hikes, and all kinds of domestic and international adventures. I also embarked on many education and professional development journeys during this time, which is where I became aware of my passion for growth coaching.
Finally I heeded to the ‘Yampa Valley Curse’ and in 2020 I packed my belongings into a shipping container, herded my dog into her travel crate, and boarded a plane back to Colorado. I am excited to be back and to continue an active lifestyle here. And I am excited to share my expertise in growth coaching with you, wherever you are and whatever your story is!
My Values & Beliefs
Honesty & Integrity
First and foremost I value honesty and integrity, both for myself and for others. I have worked and lived in a range of environments in Australia and the US, and I have had colleagues from numerous backgrounds, countries, and cultures. I have worked with high functioning successful teams and I have also been an employee in toxic working environments. I have seen the full gamut of leadership styles, teamwork styles, lifestyles, and their consequences. I have seen and experienced, as a team member, a leader, and a community member, how honesty and integrity are at the core of achieving great success no matter what the challenge or situation. As a classroom teacher I always made a point to have conversations with my students about how integrity and honesty is about doing the right thing when nobody is looking AND when everyone is looking, especially your friends.
Down to Earth & No Nonsense
While I love a good motivational quote here and there, I don’t ‘do hype.’ I get excited and celebrate successes and achievements with people, even the tiniest successes. But I like to ‘keep it real’ so to speak. I value others’ beliefs and I don’t put my own onto them. I enjoy talking about the deep and meaningful stuff, I’m serious about the coaching process, but I like to have fun and enjoy the process with people. It’s a journey we take together. Speaking of ‘journey,’ I’m not really into ‘buzz words’ or acronyms. I won’t throw a bunch of ‘coaching lingo’ out there for you to decipher. I just tell it like it is and get on with helping you to improve your life.
Professional and Confidential
It’s imperative for coaches to maintain confidentiality with clients. I don’t go bike riding with friends and chat all about my clients’ hopes and dreams while we ride along. I don’t disclose your information to anyone. It’s between you and me. I maintain professionalism by following the EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council) coaching standards of ethics. While I am down to earth and don’t do the hype that some do around coaching, I am trained, qualified, and knowledgable about my profession. I take coaching seriously and am honoured that people choose me to facilitate their goals and actions.
My Approach
I will push you hard to be honest with yourself, to find what works for you, to set and achieve goals and action steps, and to be an honest and reflective thinker. I will get the best out of you by approaching the process with a kind, understanding, rigorous, and professional attitude.
I have over two decades of experience coaching athletes, students, and colleagues to be their best selves. I have studied education extensively, with an undergrad and two postgraduate qualifications; in international education, and educational leadership, as well as professional coaching qualifications. Through these experiences I have become an expert in working with both individuals and teams of all ages. I have experienced workplaces of all kinds including public and private, non-profit and corporate, individual and team-centred environments. I am flexible and willing to work through the very mildest to the very toughest situations with you in order to achieve your goals.
